The City of Seattle has fully funded our request for $138,611 for a Beacon Hill quantitative UW Air & Noise Study and $20,000 translation/interpretation. The study will be conducted by Dr. Edmund Seto and Dr. Tim Larson, helping us meet one of our major Community Action Plan goals. The UW study, along with Dr. Daniell’s cumulative health indicators review and our community scientists lived human experience measurements will allow us to comment effectively on the draft EIS for the SeaTac facilities expansion. SeaTac plans to accommodate the doubling of international flights, tripling air cargo and increase of passengers from 47 million in 2017 to 66 million in 2034. The draft EIS will be available for comment by the end of summer 2019.
Please join us at our last EL Centro EPA Project community meeting and celebration on December 2 at 2:30 pm. We have 2 speaker panels from 3 to 5 pm on 1) Air and noise exploratory measurements by our Beacon Hill community scientists from Beacon Arts, Cleveland High School and Community Noise Measurement Team and 2) What other communities are doing about this issue. We will then serve a light dinner and have time to connect and collaborate.
We could not have gone this far without each and everyone of you.
