Over the summer, El Centro de la Raza had five amazing interns through the Seattle Youth Employment Program (SYEP). As part of Mayor Ed Murray’s Summer Youth at Work Initiative, SYEP employed around 2,000 youth in private sector placements and city departments. From July 1st to August 19th, we benefitted from having interns Albert Lorenzana, Shirley Mendez, Mohamed Mohamed, Kaela Jackson, and Jonathan Martinez. These five students helped us with a multitude of operations in the facilites office, Frances Martinez Community Center, and the food bank. They also helped with more specific projects such as landscaping, Buy-A-Brick Campaign sales, and data entry in quite a few different areas. Staff have mentioned specifically how professional these interns were and just how much they helped in their time here. A big thank you to our interns for all their hard work for El Centro de la Raza over the summer!
