El Centro de la Raza seeks to promote self-sufficiency and empowerment through bilingual education, asset building and skill building initiatives.

Tax Preparation Site

Provides free, bilingual tax filing assistance to the community from January – April as a United Way Tax Preparation Site.

Financial Empowerment

We provide comprehensive, culturally competent education and counseling services to individuals seeking homeownership, homeowners, renters, victims of foreclosure, and those who wish to have a better grasp and understanding of their finances. This includes information on how to improve credit, reduce debt, increase savings and become banked. In addition to personalized, one-on-one financial and credit counseling, we also offer Lending Circles, a secure, interest-free loan to build and establish credit. We work to strengthen the capacity of Latino families to manage and augment their household finances and credit to ameliorate the effects of debt and poor financial management, as well as with small businesses in our Building Opportunities Center.

Life Skills & Job Readiness Education

Provides employment assistance and soft skills employment training to homeless and low-income families so that they know their rights, increase their wages, and maintain employment to help end the cycle of homelessness.

ESL Classes

Addresses the language barriers to obtaining employment, citizenship and in everyday life through English classes for beginner and intermediate students to improve proficiency. Services include assessment and evaluation of participant skills, bilingual instruction, referrals for legal assistance, and other services as need.

Bilingual Legal Clinics

Provides free, monthly bilingual orientation and consultation on various legal matters through partnership with the Law Offices of Schroeter, Goldmark and Bender and the Washington State Latino/a Bar Association.

Young Adults in Tech

Provides a 6-week Salesforce Administrator training along basic coding instruction and a 60-hour internship for young adults with barriers to entry in the employment system. Salesforce Administrator certification can lead to living wage jobs in the technology sector. YAT also provides job readiness training, employment assistance, money management, and financial literacy skills. Participants who complete the 6-week program plus a 60-hour internship will receive $1,000. This program is works with young adults who are out of school, low-income, between the ages of 16 and 24 and familiar with and/or interested in learning more about Salesforce, Coding, and Jobs in the Tech Industry.
