El Centro Skate Rink – Puget Sound Energy, El Centro de la Raza ‘Roll Out’ New Solar Array
Puget Sound Energy and El Centro de la Raza are pushing toward a clean energy future together with the announcement of El Centro Skate Rink’s new 14-kilowatt solar array.
This solar array project is part of PSE’s Green Power Solar Grant program, funded by 93,000 customers who participate in Green Power and Solar Choice programs. Since inception, solar panels funded by the grant program generated an estimated 2,238,620 kWh (kilowatt-hours) of energy each year, equivalent to powering 211 average homes for one year.
Located on the roof at the skate rink, the solar array will help to power fun times for all and will also be the source of power for things coming soon, such as a park and mercado.
Not only is this power generation for El Centro de la Raza, it’s also a wallet saver. PSE estimates this project will generate an estimated 14,000-kilowatt hours annually, replacing a portion of their annual electricity use so they can focus on their mission of supporting their community.
“I’m excited about solar panels at the El Centro Skate Rink,” said Executive Director of El Centro de la Raza Estela Ortega. “Thanks to Puget Sound Energy, this project moves us closer to a sustainable future. The solar array will cut energy costs and allow us to better support our community, making a significant impact on both our environment and our program.
EL Centro de la Raza focuses on building their community through unifying all racial and economic sectors; to organize, empower, and defend the basic human rights of our most vulnerable and marginalized populations; and to bring critical consciousness, justice, dignity, and equity to all the peoples of the world.
Child & Family Services – ParentChild+ and Parent as Teachers Graduation
El Centro de la Raza’s Child and Family Services Programs are deeply rooted in our commitment to fostering strong, supportive, and empowered families within our community. This year, we were thrilled to honor the families and children who have participated in our ParentChild+ and Parents as Teachers programs with a joyful Graduation Celebration at Angle Lake Park.
The event was a beautiful gathering, filled with smiles, laughter, and a shared sense of accomplishment. Families came together to celebrate their achievements and the growth of their children, who have reached important milestones in their early education journey.
Voter Engagement – Ignite the Change Rally
El Centro de la Raza, in partnership with the Seattle Office of Civil Rights, hosted the “Ignite the Change” Rally for Civil and Voting Rights at Plaza Roberto Maestas. The event was a resounding success, drawing a vibrant crowd eager to engage in civic action and community building.
We extend a special thanks to Mayor Bruce Harrell for his inspiring participation in the Get Out the Vote Rally. His presence and words encouraged attendees to take active roles in shaping their communities.
The rally featured organizations such as the African Housing and Development Committee, The Washington Bus, Native Action Network, League of Women Voters, Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle, Alphabet Alliance of Color, Sunrise Movement, and Intercultural Child and Family Services.
Participants learned about voter registration, upcoming elections, and civil rights advocacy, fostering a sense of unity and empowerment.
Thank you to all the organizations, volunteers, and community members who made this event possible. Together, we are igniting change and building a brighter future.
