We Welcomed The Chilean Consulate – July 16-19, 2025
The Chilean Consulate recently completed a successful three-day visit to Seattle—right here at El Centro de la Raza
We were proud to host this impactful event, which provided critical support to our Chilean community through passport renewals, civil registry services, and other essential consular assistance.
Thanks to the Consulate’s team, many community members were able to access the services they needed—right in their own neighborhood.
Together, we helped bring government services closer to the people who need them most. ¡Gracias a todos los que participaron!

Youth Services: Summer of Learning & Leadership Camps
Summer is in Session!
All of our Youth Services Summer Programs are off to a powerful start—including Échale Ganas, Hope for Youth, College ¡Ganas!, and more!
Our Échale Ganas Summer Camp is already making an incredible impact. 75 middle school youth—35 in Seattle and 40 in Federal Way—are spending their summer engaged in Ethnic Studies, STEM, and Marijuana Prevention & Environmental Justice through hands-on learning, critical thinking, and weekly field trips.
Running June 23–August 13, Monday–Friday | 9:30 AM–3:30 PM, Échale Ganas is designed to prevent summer learning loss while building confidence, curiosity, and community.
Huge thanks to our youth and families for showing up each day ready to grow, learn, and lead. ¡Échale ganas!

José Martí Child Development Center: New Mural Unveiled at Cedar Crossing!
We’re proud to unveil Storybook, a vibrant new mural by @onesevennine (Angelina Villalobos Soto) that now brightens the playground wall at our José Martí Child Development Center – Cedar Crossing. When the new Roosevelt Light Rail Station blocked much of the natural sunlight to the playground, Sound Transit partnered with us to bring warmth and light back to the space—through at. The result? A joyful, bilingual mural that celebrates our children, community, and culture.
“Storybook” features a poem by José Martí in both English and Spanish, honoring our dual-language program and the cultural richness of our youth. What makes this even more special? Angelina—once a student at JMCDC herself—returned to co-create a piece that now inspires the next generation. A heartfelt thank you to the Sound Transit team: Lucile Chich, Barbara Luecke, Joanna Valeri, Amanda Wright, Desmond Brown and Brooke Belman for helping turn this vision into reality.
With 68 students across 4 classrooms, this mural is more than paint on a wall—it’s a symbol of our enduring belief in the power of arts, culture, and community.

Senior Hub: Celebrating Our Seniors – Health Is Power!
We’re proud to celebrate the first graduating cohort of Tomando Control de Su Salud at El Centro de la Raza’s Senior Hub! Over six powerful weeks, our elders took charge of their physical, emotional, and social well-being—learning practical tools to manage chronic conditions and commit to healthier living. Led by our dedicated facilitators, Flor Gomez and Raquel Garcia, this evidence-based workshop helps participants make meaningful lifestyle changes—from nutrition and exercise to setting “action plans” that put learning into practice. Thanks to new funding from the City of Seattle, we’re excited to expand this transformative program and offer two full cohorts this year.
Because la salud es poder—health is power.

Meet Candy—the newest companion to one of our senior veterans.
After losing his beloved dog, one of our Veterans of Color Pathfinders participants dreamed of welcoming a new companion. We connected him with the Auburn Humane Society, who generously covered the adoption fee—and we were there every step of the way.
Thanks to our team and support from the MVA, we helped with transportation and made sure he didn’t go through this special moment alone. Candy won him over instantly—and now they’re starting a new chapter together.
At El Centro de la Raza, our Veterans of Color Pathfinders Program supports veterans and their families through advocacy, outreach, and connection to services—with heart.

Youth Internships: Bank of America’s Student Leaders
At El Centro de la Raza, we’re proud to partner with Bank of America’s Student Leaders® program to help shape the next generation of changemakers.
This program offers young leaders the opportunity to serve, inspire, and create change through paid internships, leadership training, and a national summit.
We’re honored to stand alongside fellow host organizations— Mercy Housing, Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King County, Technology Access Foundation, and the The Museum of Flight—to support these driven students as they gain real-world experience and build a more equitable future.
Thank you, Bank of America, for investing in youth and community.
