TAmales for a Cause: Hands-On Cooking Class with Carmen Cejudo 🌽

🎉🌮 Calling all food lovers and culinary adventurers! 🌮🎉
Join us at El Centro de la Raza for a special Tamale Cooking Class with Carmen Cejudo — a hands-on cultural experience where food, tradition, and community come together.

Learn the Art of Tamales — From Scratch

Under Carmen’s expert guidance, participants will learn how to craft authentic tamales step by step. You’ll explore the foundations of masa, master flavorful fillings, and practice traditional wrapping techniques using corn husks — all while connecting with the rich cultural traditions behind this beloved dish.

A Tradition Rooted in History

Tamales date back thousands of years to the ancient civilizations of Mesoamerica, where they served as nourishing, portable meals for travelers and warriors. Over generations, tamales became a cherished culinary tradition — enjoyed during celebrations, holidays, and everyday gatherings. Today, they continue to bring people together across cultures and communities.

Vegetarian & Vegan Tamales

This class will focus on plant-based options, including:

  • Cheese & Jalapeño (Vegetarian)

  • Potato Mole (Vegan)

  • Spinach & Mushroom (Vegan)

All supplies, ingredients, and take-home recipes are included with admission — so you can recreate the experience in your own kitchen.

Cook with Purpose

This special event is also a fundraiser supporting El Centro de la Raza’s Senior Hub Program, helping older adults stay connected through meals, wellness activities, cultural programming, and community care.
