Our new Roberto Maestas Digital Learning Lab and upgraded Wi-Fi coverage will help El Centro de la Raza ensure hundreds of local families have support and resources for online learning, accessing important support services, finding career opportunities, and more. Made possible by Comcast Washington, the lab and an expanded WiFi-connected Lift Zone, will support online learning for students, families, and community groups.
The Comcast Lift Zone gives El Centro de la Raza robust Wi-Fi coverage that supports its different programs, which include DACA and immigration services, housing and economic support, after school and youth curriculum, emergency services, and adult education and asset building classes. Comcast’s Lift Zones include free hotspot connectivity, and access to hundreds of hours of educational and digital skills content to help students navigate online learning, while bringing the community El Centro de la Raza serves at its center needed Wi-Fi connectivity.
The Roberto Maestas Digital Learning Lab offers a safe, welcoming multi-use space and technology center that supports distance learning and provides resources for reaching large audiences virtually. The lab is furnished with $50,000 in new technology from Comcast for recording, streaming and remote instruction, which enables El Centro de la Raza to run their programming virtually until it is safe to return to in-person learning. In the future the lab will be open to other local nonprofits.
